A child is curious about dinosaurs and decides to write his librarian to gather more information about dinosaurs. Through this exchange, he learns about the Technosaurous and the work of a paleontologist, Dr. Sankar Chatterjee, who helped find this dinosaur.
What I Liked: This book does a fantastic job of introducing children to letter writing and the wonders of libraries. The relationship that this child develops with the librarian through letter writing is intriguing, as she answers each of his questions and encourages his curiosity.
The illustrations throughout this book are simple, highlighting what letters look like and introducing children to the Technosaurus. There is a two-page spread that explains more information about the Technosaurus and how it was found. This was all presented in an intriguing and entertaining way, which can hold a young audience’s attention.
Final Verdict: Dear Ms Guadalupe, Letters to My Librarian is a great way to introduce letter writing and explain the structure of a letter to children. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy learning about dinosaurs, and older children will laugh as they recognize just what type of animal the child in this story has stumbled upon.

TRUE VOICE REVIEW:
Independent, reader-focused editorial review and content…
“Dear Ms. Guadalupe: Letters to My Librarian” follows Joey, a dinosaur-obsessed
student who spends his summer writing letters to his school librarian about the
“Texasaurus,” he believes, lives in a nearby creek. Through their warm, witty
correspondence, Ms. Guadalupe shares real facts about Technosaurus smalli and
gently guides Joey toward scientific thinking—asking questions, examining evidence,
and staying curious even when reality looks different from imagination. Lush,
swirling illustrations contrast Joey’s prehistoric daydreams with the ordinary
animals of the creek, giving young readers plenty to explore on each spread.
Extensive backmatter—including a letter-writing guide, fact boxes, a paleontologist’s
note, and a works cited list—turns this into a standout resource for STEM units and
library lessons. Quietly humorous, deeply respectful of children’s curiosity, and rich
with teaching.
Short Review:
A tender, science-rich picture book that blends dinosaur dreams, letter-writing, and a
librarian’s gentle guidance into a charming celebration of curiosity and inquiry-based
learning.
